K-1 World Grand Prix 2024 in Tokyo: Result, Final Part/ Ariel Machado is The K-1 World GP 2024 Openweight Tournament Winner!!
K-1 WORLD GP 2024 in TOKYO FINAL was held on December 14th at Tokyo National Yoyogi Studium 1st Gymnasium.
After defeating all three opponents by KOs in one night, Ariel Machado became the K-1 WORLD GP 2024 Openweight Tournament champion. In the quarterfinal, He withstood Rhys Brudenell’s early pressure, before scoring a one-punch KO. He then knocked Errol Zimmerman down twice in a round to advance to the final match. In the final, Machado targeted Feng Rui’s legs to take the K-1 championship.
18TH FIGHT – K-1 WORLD GP 2024 OPENWEIGHT TOURNAMENT FINAL – FENG RUI VS. ARIEL MACHADO
Round 1:
Rui opened with a left sidekick to close the distance, but Machado stayed composed and responded with low kicks. Midway through the round, Rui’s left and right hooks connected with Machado’s head, but Machado quickly countered with a left hook. He followed up with a hard right low kick, dropping Rui, whose leg was already damaged from earlier fights.
With 10 seconds left in the round, Machado trapped Rui in the corner and unleashed a powerful left hook. Rui collapsed to the canvas, and Machado secured a KO victory.
17TH FIGHT – AKIHIRO KANEKO VS. ASLANBEK ZIKREEV
Round 1:
Kaneko opened with sharp, compact left jabs. Zikreev responded with low kicks and middle kicks, mixing in right hooks. Midway through the round, Kaneko kept a tight guard, carefully observing Zikreev’s attacks. With one minute remaining, Kaneko delivered a precise counter right short hook, dropping Zikreev.
Round 2:
With the range now established, both fighters actively exchanged punches. Zikreev launched a counterattack with front kicks to the face and spinning backfists. Kaneko regained control with a well-timed overhand right hook. Although Zikreev lost his balance from Kaneko’s hook.
Round 3:
Zikreev pressed forward with jabs and middle kicks, while Kaneko’s left and right hooks landed cleanly on Zikreev’s face. Despite this, Zikreev continued his relentless offense, showing incredible stamina with persistent jabs and left middle kicks. Kaneko responded with pinpoint right straights that snapped Zikreev’s head back. The bout remained a nonstop exchange of strikes until the final bell.
Akihiro Kaneko won a unanimous decision.
16TH FIGHT – RIAMU VS. RUI OKUBO
Round 1:
Okubo started the fight with low kicks and jabs to gauge the distance. Riamu countered with low kicks. Both fighters maintained a long-range battle, with occasional clinches in the middle of the round. Toward the end, Okubo landed a clean right straight.
Round 2:
Both fighters exchanged hooks early in the round while keeping their guards tight. After the first minute, the fight shifted back to a tactical mid-range battle. Okubo utilized stance switches, landing a sharp left straight after his punch combinations.
Round 3:
Okubo pressed forward with middle kicks and right straights. Though Riamu retaliated with hooks, Okubo maintained control by disrupting Riamu’s rhythm. In the final minute, Okubo unleashed punch combinations on Riamu near the ropes. Although Riamu managed to escape, he struggled to land effective punches of his own.
Rui Okubo won a unanimous decision.
