A buzz filled the air at the Sicilian Regional Assembly Hall in the historic Norman Palace on April 19, 2024, as organizers announced details for the much-anticipated “K-1 WORLD GP 2024 in Sicily,” set to take place on July 27.

The tournament will unfold at Garibaldi Square in Rosolini, a choice venue known for its vibrant outdoor setting and popularity among tourists—guaranteeing an electric atmosphere for the fights.

The “K-1 WORLD GP 2024 in Sicily” features a gripping one-day tournament with eight fighters battling across seven matches in the open weight class. The victor will secure a coveted spot at the “K-1 WORLD GP 2024 in Tokyo,” scheduled for December 14, 2024, at Tokyo’s Yoyogi National Gymnasium.

Riccardo Gennuso, a member of the Sicilian Regional Assembly, shared his passion for K-1 during the conference, highlighting the growing excitement within Italy for the martial arts spectacle.

In a heartfelt video message, K-1 producer Carlos Kikuta announced, “K-1 World GP is landing on the island of Sicily in Italy. In July’s event, you can expect incredible fighters who will deliver the fierce battles that you all crave. The winner of the tournament will be invited to the December event in Tokyo. Let’s meet at K-1 WGP in Italy!”

The Venue at Garibaldi Square

Bruno Bottindari, the promoter for the Sicilian event, couldn’t hide his enthusiasm: “K-1’s return has sparked the creation of a traditional kickboxing and Muay Thai gala here in Sicily. It’s a joy to see the global spotlight turn to the town of Rosolini. We are immensely grateful to our partners in Western Europe, the dedicated team at Japan’s K-1, and the supportive Sicilian community for making this happen.”

While the lineup of fighters is still being finalized, the locale’s history of nurturing world-class talent, such as K-1 WORLD MAX champion Giorgio Petrosyan, suggests that this year’s tournament is a must see.
